CCST brakes help electric hypercar NIO EP9 break Nurburgring Nordschleife Lap Record

The NIO EP9 set a new lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, achieving a lap time of 6 min 45.900 s, beating the previous record recently set by the Lamborghini Huracán Performante (6 min 52.01 s) in March 2017.

With Peter Dumbreck at the helm, 1,341 hp (1,000 kW) of output from its four electric motor/generators and 3 G braking deceleration provided by Surface Transforms brake discs in an Alcon braking system, the NIO EP9 beat its previous Nurburgring time by more than 19 seconds.

Driver Peter Dumbreck said, “The NIO EP9 and I broke the production car record around the Nordschleife today. Mega (Watt) effort by all in the production of this car.”

This is a fabulous achievement for NIO and I am very proud of the team that has worked tirelessly to achieve this accolade,” said Gerry Hughes, Head of Performance Program & FE Team Principal, NIO.

This result comes on top of the NIO EP9 setting the autonomous (driverless) car lap record at the Circuit of the Americas in March.

Surface Transforms provided brake discs for all six existing NIO EP9 cars; NIO intend to make a second batch of 10 EP9s and each one will be made-to-order.
