Surface Transforms ‘next-generation’ Carbon-Ceramic discs were recently on display at the Military Vehicles Exhibition and Conference in Detroit. The event is the largest dedicated military vehicles event in the world and provides a unique opportunity for contact with a broad group of decision-makers. It provides the only chance on US soil to network with over 2,500 vehicle professionals and top military experts from the US and around the world.
Surface Transforms brake discs were displayed by Wilwood Engineering Inc, a US-based manufacturer of high-performance disc brake systems, and one of Surface Transforms customers. Wilwood manufactures brake systems and components for motorsport, agricultural equipment, industrial applications, utility vehicles, snowmobiles, quads, motorcycles and military vehicles.
Carbon-Ceramic brakes are now becoming a serious option for the next-generation of military vehicles where reducing weight is now a key target. With weight savings of around 10kg per axle Surface Transforms lightweight brake discs are a highly effective way to reduce vehicle unsprung mass. Wilwood has incorporated STs Carbon-Ceramic brake disc into a disc brake system to offer as an alternative to traditional steel-based systems for military vehicle programmes where weight saving is a factor.
