David Bundred, Non Executive Chairman
David has 30 years experience of general management in the automotive and aerospace industries with a particular speciality in the brake systems segment. Before joining Surface Transforms he was CEO of TMD Friction GmbH a €600m sales, private, German headquartered company that is one of the world's leading brake pad system suppliers for the automotive industry. He had previously been with Lucas Industries for 24 years, which included, amongst other roles, positions as COO of Lucas Aerospace, and General Manager of both the Lucas Brake Controls and Lucas Truck Brake Divisions.
Within the Brake Controls business he led the industry introduction of anti lock brakes, an experience now mirrored in the introduction of carbon ceramic disc brakes, both safety critical products. He is now an active investor with “a hands on" focus in a small number of high growth companies. He holds an MBA from Cranfield University and is both a chartered engineer and chartered management accountant.
Dr Kevin Johnson, Chief Executive Officer
Kevin has a doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Liverpool and an MBA from Manchester Business School. He has spent six years in product development for the chemical industry and has a broad experience with OEM multinationals in the area of new technology development. Previously he worked for Avecia, formerly AstraZeneca.
Kevin D’Silva, Non Executive Director
Kevin's career has been in the life science products and the medical devices industry where he has been CEO or chairman of several private and publicly quoted companies. He is currently chairman of Monica Healthcare Ltd; director and former chairman of Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging Ltd; AI2 Ltd; chairman of Crystallon Ltd and Oxford Cryosystems Ltd and a director of Surface Transforms plc. Through his consultancy partnership, Salusinvest LP (www.salusinvest.com), he is a board member of Metrasens Ltd and Michelson Diagnostics Ltd and advises a number of EU and US listed med tech companies. He is a chemical engineer, graduating from the University of Leeds and has an MBA from Manchester Business School.
Richard Gledhill, Non Executive Director
Richard was appointed as non-executive director of Surface Transforms in September 2009. Since 1972, Richard’s principal activity has been, and continues to be, the building and developing of USG-Gledco Ltd. The company produces mechanical carbon components and materials for the aerospace and oil and gas industries and, following the acquisition of US Graphite in 1998, now supplies carbon components worldwide from three locations in the UK, USA and Mexico.
Michael Cunningham, Finance Director
Michael is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, holds an MBA from the European School of Management and Technology in Berlin and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Queens University Belfast. Michael joins the Company from Bentley Motors Ltd where he was Profitability Controller, and previously Senior Finance Manager (Mulliner), reporting into the Company CFO. Prior to joining Bentley, Michael was Finance Director of Aquila Truck Centres Ltd; Commercial Director (initially Regional Financial Controller) of MAN Truck and Bus UK, and Financial Controller of Preston Group, a family owned car dealership.
Michael Sinai, European Sales
Michael, based in Germany, has over 20 years experience within the automotive industry including senior sales positions at Bosch, Trimble and Flextronics.Immediately prior to joining Surface Transforms in 2013, Michael had been a successful manager of early stage businesses. Michael also has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Technische Universität Darmstadt.
Geoff Whitfield, Engineering Manager
Geoff has over 15 years experience in product and process design, development and testing within the automotive and aerospace sectors. In his early career he gained experience in polymer composite product design and testing when he worked for a small composite materials consultancy. He then moved into high volume manufacturing with Mondi Packaging where he was responsible for capital project implementation to align production cells to the business's capacity and quality targets. Geoff joined Surface Transforms in 2004 and has developed friction products and industrialised some of the key manufacturing processes which form part of the proprietary know-how required to make cutting edge carbon-ceramic brake discs. Geoff has a BSc (Hon) in aeronautical engineering and an MSc in engineering (composite materials) from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.
Steve Harvey, Senior Operations Manager
Steve is a chartered Senior Manager with over 27 year’s international experience in operations, quality, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement. He has held both operational and strategic positions with divisional responsibility for major tier 1 global corporations throughout the last 22 years. Previously he was responsible for the launch of 3 Greenfield automotive JIT plants as well as several plant turn-arounds and numerous premium vehicle launches across Europe most recently with International Automotive Components Group. Steve is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Quality (CQI) and holds a post graduate diploma in strategic quality management from Portsmouth business school.
Kerry Wood, Senior Quality Manager
Kerry joined Surface Transforms in 2017 having previously held the position of Head of Quality Coordination at NGF Europe one of the world’s leading manufacturers of performance glass products for the automotive sector and part of the Nippon Glass Fibre Group. Holding industry recognised qualifications in quality, health and safety and environmental compliance, including VDA qualifications, Kerry has worked in various roles within these areas over the last 10 years and brings a wealth of experience to the company. Since joining the company Kerry has been instrumental in the transfer of the company to the new industry standard of IATF 16949 and the award of ISO 14001 for environmental performance. She has also driven significant improvement in overall product quality and control.
