The correct way to bed-in your CCST brake discs

To achieve the best performance from your carbon ceramic brake discs a pad material transfer layer must be achieved during bedding in to ensure that the brake system operates correctly. We recommend the use of Pagid Racing RSC1, RSL29 and RSL1 pad compounds with our brake discs. When you first receive your Surface Transforms brake kit, it is essential that you bed in the brake rotors correctly to allow optimal performance and lifetime.

Only carry out the following procedure where it is safe and legal to do so. Be aware that sudden braking is a severe danger to yourself and other traffic.

Step 1: Gentle Stops (to bed the pad and disc geometry)

20 normal stops from 30 mph (50 kph) to a complete stop with light pedal pressure.

Step 2: Medium Stops (to increase the pad temperature above 400°C to condition the pad)

20 medium stops from 75 mph (120 kph) to 25 mph (40 kph) at about 0.4-0.5 g.

Step 3: Heavier Stops (to fade the pad and outgas)

10 heavier stops from 77 mph (125 kph) to 25 mph (40kph) at about 0.6 g.
Aim to do 4 stops per minute.

Step 4: Controlled cool down (to control the cool down of the brake)

Cool the brake to below 100°C by driving at around 50 mph (80 kph) without braking for around 15 minutes.

This bedding procedure should ensure correct interaction of the braking couple (pad and disc) and give optimal performance of your CCST brakes as well as preventing damage to the disc through inefficient braking.
